Jet is a little bird who is afraid to fly. While the sky calls to him, fear keeps his wings firmly on the ground. But when his dear friend Oliver the dog finds himself in danger, Jet faces a choice: stay safe… or be brave.
The Bird That Was Afraid to Fly is a heart-warming children's story about courage, friendship, and believing in yourself. As Jet learns that bravery isn't about being fearless but about caring for others, young readers are gently encouraged to face their own worries and discover their inner strength.

We were delighted to welcome Hannah Farthing for an inspiring author visit that truly captured the children's imaginations. From the moment she arrived with her gentle saluki, Oliver, the pupils were completely engaged and eager to learn more about the world of storytelling and illustration.
Hannah shared how she develops ideas for her books and illustrations, answering thoughtful questions and encouraging children to believe that anyone can become an author or illustrator. The sessions sparked wonderful creativity across the school, with pupils producing imaginative stories, detailed character descriptions, and enthusiastic descriptive writing inspired by Oliver.
The impact of the visit extended well beyond the day itself. Many children have since begun writing their own books and spoke positively about the confidence they gained and the value of Hannah's encouragement and feedback. Pupils described the visit as inspirational, helping them understand that writing is an ongoing creative process that requires imagination, perseverance, and enjoyment.
Overall, the visit was a fantastic experience that inspired a love of reading, writing, and creativity. We are incredibly grateful to Hannah Farthing for such a memorable and motivating visit.
I really enjoyed this book. The author describes the environment very well, which makes the story easy to imagine. The story is interesting and educational, and it teaches children about courage and friendship. The book also has beautiful pictures, which make it even more enjoyable to read. I also think this book is good for learning new vocabulary.
Overall, it is a nice and useful book that I would recommend to children and learners of English.
This is a book for more mature children, and despite its relatively short length, a great deal happens within its pages. The story is simple and easy to follow, yet engaging and thoughtfully constructed. It's an enjoyable and accessible read that clearly delivers on its intentions.
In today's unsettled and sometimes unkind world it has been a complete joy to read Hannah Farthing's first published book 'The bird who was afraid to fly'. Not only does she draw the reader into the story with delightful, descriptive text but also enhances the tale with her own beautiful and colourful illustrations.
A heartwarming story of love, devotion, resilience and bravery. Do not be tricked into thinking however that the story is all rainbows and sparkles as there is a dark and dangerous path to navigate for Jet the bluetit!
We all need a balm for our over stimulated and pressured lives, and although this book is aimed at younger readers, the story and sentiment is something we could all benefit from.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and cannot wait for the next adventure.
I'm finding your book very good and interesting. Unfortunately I'm a slow reader but as I read on I will give you more information on how I am cooping with the wording but honestly I'm loving the book and about the family of bluetits are getting on with their lives and that cat and looking forward to reading more.
I do hope that you have another wonderful book coming off the back burner in the very near future and when you do please let me know thank you.
I have both the kindle and paperback versions of this book, and it really is a lovely read in either format.
The illustrations are beautiful and the story contains important messages about bravery, courage and friendship for both children and adults. The characters are endearing, easily pulling you into the story, I think we can all see a little of ourselves in Jet, that's for sure.
Plenty of talking points for parents and children throughout the story, cleverly highlighted by the challenges Jet faces and his relationships with his family and friends.
